Fundraising for Haiti

Build a Business in a day competition

Mangrove Fund (www.mangrovefund.org) is a Portland-based 501(c)(3) charity which is focused exclusively on providing rebuilding and development assistance in Haiti. Mangrove is now focused on earthquake rebuilding efforts in Haiti. To support this, we are sponsoring and running a “Build a Business in a Day” charity fundraiser and competition. The competition will foster team-building, real-time strategizing and marketing insight by requiring teams to market, promote and sell a product in a single day. All of the proceeds received by Mangrove through this fundraiser will be used to support established organizations and people working directly in Haiti to reconstruct the basic infrastructure of the country.  Please join us by signing up one or more teams to compete in this event!


DETAILS:

Date: Saturday, March 6, 2010 - Note revised date!
Time: Competition starts at 12:00 PM and ends at 5:30 PM, when winners will be announced. - Note revised time!
Location: Competition start and finish will occur at BackSpace, 115 NW 5th Avenue, Portland, OR (www.backspace.bz).  Local bands to play after event.
Competition:

Teams can sign up in groups of 4, 5, or 6 individuals.  Individuals and teams of fewer than 4 people, will be matched with others to create a team.  Each team will be provided with to-be-disclosed products to sell in person, telephonically, or online in an event modeled after “The Apprentice.”  The objective is simple: raise the most money for Haiti relief efforts by selling the most products!  Each team will have to determine the best way to market and promote their products to obtain maximum profits.

The team with the most committed dollars at the end of the competition wins.  Teams will also be able to add to dollar totals if they achieve certain numbers of people signing up for newsletters from Mangrove.

Prizes: Winning Team:  Each member of the winning team will get several hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from Portland area companies including:  Columbia Sportswear messenger bags; Journey Fitness journey gyms; Mount Hood Skibowl lift tickets; Saint Cupcake gift certificates; Stanley (quart-size) Classic Thermoses; Stumptown Coffee; and more!

Raffle Prizes:  Winners will be chosen randomly from list of participants to receive a variety of gift certificates (from Fancy Salon; for a 2-night stay at a Seal Rock beach home; for a 1-night stay at Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast) and other prizes including tickets to the Oregon Symphony for Mahler’s “Titan” and passes to the Nike employee store!
